This page features periodicals that I take, and books that I have read, that influence my way of doing things. Some are directly farm-related and some are not.
Dominion: The Power of Men, the Suffering of Animals, and the Call to Mercy. A moral inquiry into the treatment of animals. By Matthew Scully www.matthewscully.com Geography of Nowhere, and Home from Nowhere, by William Howard Kuntsler. This sustainable agrarian stuff I love so much can only achieve its potential through a sustainable urbanism, called New Urbanism. Its a wonderful world we can have if we think through some basic issues in how we live. Kuntsler also wrote "The Long Emergency" recently which depicts life at the end of cheap oil.www.kunstler.com
The Maker's Diet by Jordan Rubin. I know, I recommend a vegetarian book (Dominion) above, and here a book that doesn't include pork--but I respect anyone who takes their diet seriously and makes a good case. Can I get a witness?] |
![]() Flyfishing great and New York Times writer Peter Kaminsky has a new book out called Pig Perfect: Encounters with Remarkable Swine and Ways to Cook Them from Hyperion Press. For a terrific story by a qualified 'hamthropologist' read this beautiful and well documented book. |
